“Thinking is as thinking does.”
Jimmy had always had plans. Sort of, anyway. His mind was always busy thinking ahead or running behind, analyzing things frontwards or backwards, trying to figure out what was the next, best step. But, as the saying goes, Life had other plans.
That didn’t stop Jimmy from overthinking. Not even close. Or far into the future. It took years for Jimmy to learn otherwise. Only when life had stepped in to strip him of all his hopes for happiness did he finally open the space to know Joy. This true joy arose from the heart, not the mind. Love is not something to be figured out or weighed against the alternatives. Love is All. Or Nothing. When Mind is out of the equation, when thinking has dropped into stasis, then can peace be known and love blossom.
“Baby, I love you beyond thinking about it!” Jimmy grinned and waited for Jenny’s response. She looked up into his bright eyes that reflected her own.
“Better if you don’t,” she said and paused while Jimmy waited, suspended between thoughts. “Think about it, that is, Boyfriend!” She laughed at Jimmy’s expression, which moved from suspended animation to a soulful sigh. “I love you beyond thinking, too!”
“Whew!” Jimmy wiped his forehead as if he had been sweating her response. “Glad to hear it!”
“I’m always glad to hear it, too, Jimmy. Say it again!”
“I love you, Girlfriend!” Jimmy’s grin broadened, and he waved his hand outward. “To infinity. And beyond!”
“Beyond infinite thinking?” Jenny quipped, grinning with him.
“I think so,” Jimmy joked.
“Of course you do!” Jenny countered coquettishly.
“Well, off course, maybe.” They laughed together.
“Is there any other way?” Jenny offered between chuckles.
“Every which way but loose!” Jimmy sing-songed the lyrics from the Clint Eastwood movie.
“You’ve got a screw loose, that’s for sure,” Jenny poked him in the ribs.
“That’s just how you dreamed me, Girlfriend!”
“You mean, dreams really do come true?”
“Of course they do, Jenny!” Jimmy tapped her sternum lightly, at her heart. “And you had the power within you all along.”
“There’s no place like Love,” Jenny sang, changing the lyric from The Wizard of Oz slightly. “There’s no place like Love….”
“And you were there, and you!” Jimmy
quoted Dorothy at the movie’s end.
“This Love IS over the rainbow, Boyfriend!” Jenny laughed warmly. “And you ARE the wizard!”
“Does that make you the Good Witch?” Jimmy laughed.
“I’ll put a spell on you!”
“Too late, I think.” Jimmy countered. “I’m already entranced!”
“Keep ‘not thinking,’ that,” Jenny advised.
“And we’ll get to go to the Emerald City?”
“It’s a good possibility, Boyfriend.”
“Pay no attention to the man behind his curtains.”
